WENATCHEE – The Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center has lowered the price of its lunch program to $5 to increase awareness and community engagement.

The lunch program operates Tuesday through Friday and lunch is served promptly at noon in their social hall at 1312 Maple St., Wenatchee. To control costs, the center requires that participants RSVP at least one business day in advance.

“One of our long-standing commitments at the senior center is to provide an affordable, well-balanced lunch to our senior community,” said Dave Tosch, executive director. “There are many seniors in our community on fixed incomes who are at risk of food insecurity. We want to make sure that everyone, regardless age or income, has access to a hot meal four days a week.”

"We've been listening to feedback from our current and former lunch attendees. They've also asked us to include more fresh vegetables, like salads, and they want dessert," said Tosch. "We're making these changes, along with lowering our price from $7 to $5, to bring more people in to try our lunch program."

The program focuses on providing a healthy, low-cost meal. But just as importantly, it also offers an opportunity for seniors to socialize. “Many of our regulars routinely come to lunch to meet with their friends. Our lunches are an important social event that our local seniors can look forward to,” said Tosch.

While the senior center itself has a small annual membership fee, the lunch program is open to the public. “Our lunch program is open to anyone to attend, whether or not they are a member. We also do not have an age requirement. Anyone can come to our lunches. So, for example, a senior can bring their kids or grandkids for lunch,” said Tosch.

RSVPs are required to participate. Payment is collected at the door. Discount punch cards are also available for purchase with a 'buy 10, get one free' bonus.

For more information on the senior center’s lunch program, contact their office at (509) 662-7036 or visit their website at wenatcheeseniorcenter.com/lunch-program to see their menu and RSVP online.
