The Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center has been in our community since the 1980s. However, there are many people that don't even know we exist. Others are aware of us but don't understand what goes on inside our building. Let's dispel 6 common myths we're heard about our senior center.
by Dave Tosch, WVSAC Executive Director Winter has finally arrived, and we hope everyone is staying safe in this unpredictable weather. We’ve experienced a couple of closure days and want to remind our membership that when we do close, we try to get the word out the day prior. Closure information will be posted on our website and Facebook page. Anyone who calls the front desk will also hear a prerecorded message. Keep in mind our parking lot is not plowed unless there is at least 2 inches of snowfall, and we try to have it done in the morning hours before the center opens. There is no daytime plowing when we are open due to safety concerns. The fundraising kickoff event to benefit our senior center building expansion project will be held Saturday, Feb. 10. Board member Erin Cass has been busy organizing this event with the theme “Booty for the Build,” which will include an all-you-can-eat crab feed and auction. The menu will also include caesar salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Gourmet spaghetti will be available for those who want an alternative. Tickets are $120 per person. Beer and wine will be available for purchase and there will be a special Pirates Punch. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes with a tropical/island/pirate theme. Lance Tigner and the Easy Street Men’s Choir will provide music throughout the evening. Lance and his group performed at our talent show in December and they are outstanding! This promises to be a fun evening and for a good cause. Our Gift Fair is back again this year, bigger and better than ever!
Over 100 booths with unique gifts, plus raffles. PLUS, the Gift Fair marks the kick-off of our Second Chance Thrift Shop Christmas Cottage, containing thousands of holiday items for sale. The Thrift Shop and Christmas Cottage are located at the rear entrance of the senior center. Don't miss this one-day event! (The Christmas Cottage will remain open throughout the holiday season. Locations:
Believe it or not, spring is right around the corner. It's time to clear out our winter clothing inventory to make room. All winter apparel is now 50% OFF. The Second Chance Thrift Shop is a primary source of revenue for the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center. All proceeds from the thrift shop are used to fund operations of the senior center. A huge THANK YOU to all of those in community who make our thrift shop a success, both by donating goods for sale by patronizing the store. Our thrift shop is open Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and is located at the rear entrance to the senior center at 1312 Maple Street, Wenatchee. |
