There are 2 open positions on our Board of Directors to be filled at the Annual Election Meeting:
To be considered for nomination to an open position, a member must have attended two or more board meetings within the last two years, been a member for at least one year, and meet all other qualifications. Request an “Election Candidate Packet” from the WVSAC office and return the required forms to the receptionist no later than Friday, May 17th. The candidate slating will be published in the June newsletter. The four Member-At-Large positions will be appointed by the new board after the election. For more information, please contact Melanie Salter, Nominating Committee Chairperson. Lunch is still $5 for membersWe are seeing unprecedented growth at the Senior Center for 2024. Last fall, our membership grew at a steady clip of 40-50 new members per month. In February, despite the short month, we gained 78 new members. And March appears to have continued our consistent trajectory with 48 new members. While our membership dropped nearly 50 percent during the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have now regained all of the lost numbers. At the rate we are now growing, our membership will increase by another 50 percent by the end of 2025.
by Dave Tosch, WVSAC Executive Director 2023 is quickly coming to a close and we have been busy! Over the past several months, we have been presenting our building expansion plan to our membership and answering their questions. We must raise and/or identify $4 million in order to get the project underway. To meet this goal, we are launching a local fundraising campaign, led by board member Erin Cass, which will help us raise the matching funds necessary to qualify for state, federal and private/corporate grants. Our goal for local funding is $400,000 which we believe will meet the matching requirements. Simply stated, for every $1 we raise locally, we will achieve $10 when accounting for the matching funds from the outside sources listed above. It’s now time to take our first big step. On Saturday evening, Feb. 10, we will host a fundraising campaign kickoff with a special crab feed and auction. The theme for the event is “Raising Booty for the Build,” including a gathering of Caribbean Pirates. Because our goal is to raise a significant amount of money and get off to a great start, we will be selling tickets for $120 (per person) and asking for table sponsorships throughout the community. Obviously this is a significant undertaking and something we have never before attempted. Please keep in mind that our ultimate goal is to have additional space to provide more activities for seniors residing in the Greater Wenatchee Valley. More details on the event will be available in the coming weeks. The Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center has updated its hours of operation and announced their holiday schedule for 2023.
To avoid confusion, we have changed our hours of operation for both the senior center and our Second Chance Thrift Shop to Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Before the change, the senior center was open until 4:30 p.m. and the thrift shop was open until 4 p.m. There are some classes and events that run later than 4 p.m. - those activities will continue as normal. The thrift shop is also now open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The senior center is not currently open on Saturdays. |
