by Russ Alman It’s not the first time Don Ricks has showed up with boxes of fruit.
Last year, Ricks brought apples and pears. Those were quickly snatched up and taken home by the members at the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center. A crew from the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department toured the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center on July 11 to become more familiar with the layout of the building in case of an emergency. The fire department inspects all commercial and multi-dwelling structures periodically so they can memorize the key areas of concern, including electrical panels, potential fire ignition locations and paths to emergency exits. Familiarity with buildings can save valuable seconds during a fire or other evacuation event.
Thanks to a late cancellation, the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce offered us the opportunity to step in on short notice and host their April Business After Hours at the Senior Center. Over 60 local businesspeople attended… and more than half of them had never been in the Senior Center before! After the networking event, Jim Tarbert, WVSAC board member, and Russ Alman, Director of Communications, took 20 of the guests on a tour of the building, including a sneak peek in the Thrift Shop.
The event was a great opportunity to share the senior center's mission and future vision for expansion with members of the local business community. by Rick Edwards, Sustainable NCW Are you knee deep in grass clippings, leaves and other yard debris? This is especially important for new construction or for a major landscape renovation.

Why can’t we recycle it anymore?” Glass was the first thing that I ever “recycled” as a kid, picking up glass pop bottles anywhere I could find them and turning them in at the local store in return for candy and pop.
