This was the first time we've scheduled a Seafair cruise like this and I'm sure glad we did! 32 participants took the Seafair trip on Sunday, August 6. The weather was absolutely perfect, and the Blue Angels airshow was spectacular from the water We left the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center around 9:30 a.m. on a chartered Wenatchee Valley Shuttle. Their shuttles are comfortable, air-conditioned, and have free Wi-Fi available. We arrived at Lake Union for our cruise and had an hour or so to relax at the pier before boarding our Waterways cruise. Once our cruise began, we were treated to a gourmet lunch. We were able to choose whether to eat in the covered lounge, or take advantage of the beautiful weather and dine on the upper deck and bow. This feast included barbecue ribs, seared chicken and salmon. seasoned, golden corn on the cob, roasted potato salad, black bean salad, spring salad, signature cheddar corn bread muffins and a fruit platter. From Lake Union, we cruised through the canal into Lake Washington. The captain gave us a guided tour, teaching us interesting facts about landmarks and celebrity homes along the way. Between the skyline, the fascinating houseboats along the shore and the hundreds enjoying the lakes, there was never a dull moment! For the grand finale of our cruise, we stopped in Lake Washington to watch the Blue Angels perform their precision flying routine. The combination of the rumbling jets passing overhead and the buzz of activity on the lake was really a one-in-a-lifetime experience! Finally, around 5:30 p.m., we returned to the pier in Lake Union and boarded the shuttle back to Wenatchee. We stopped in North Bend for a bite to eat and to stretch our legs, and arrived back in Wenatchee around 10 p.m. It was a long day and we were tired, but it was a truly memorable experience. A big THANK YOU to Wenatchee Valley Shuttle for providing our round-trip transportation from Wenatchee, and to Waterways Cruises and Events for the comfortable cruise and delicious barbecue buffet. |
