We've known for a few weeks now but weren't able to make this announcement until the official awards ceremony hosted by the Wenatchee World: The Second Chance Thrift Shop has been awarded World's Best Thrift Store for the 8th year in a row. There is a reason we have dominated this competition year after year. Thanks to Shannon Port, thrift shop manager, and her team of dedicated employees and volunteers, we have a well-managed store that consistently provides customers with clean, high-quality second-hand items. Shannon had managed the shop for over 12 years now and many of her staff have been there for many years as well. This consistency, along with a focus on being picky about what they accept and put out for sale, has gained us a reputation in the community for providing the best thrift shop experience in the Wenatchee Valley.
Our thrift shop started as a small, one-room gift shop in the back of the Senior Center. Over the past dozen years, it has continued to grow the point that we need to build more space to support it. The thrift shop generates nearly two-thirds of the revenue the senior center needs to operate. It's also worth mentioning that The Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center received honorable mention for Best Nonprofit. This is the first time the senior center has been nominated for that category and considering all of the worthy nonprofits in our area, we're honored that were in the running. |
