Empty Bowls is a grassroots effort to fight hunger, a growing problem across the nation and the world. The idea is that potters, artists, and community members work together to create custom hand-crafted bowls. This event combines compassion with creativity while generating public awareness about the hunger crisis. A painting event will be held at the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center Social Hall on Friday, January 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will receive a bowl to decorate and paint for a $15 donation. The bowls will then be collected, glazed and fired in a kiln.
After the painting events have been completed, the CDCAC will host a Soup Meal celebration at Wenatchee High School on Saturday, April 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The community will enjoy soup together with the bowls they created. Those who did not paint a bowl may attend the Soup Meal for a $5 donation. Artists will take home their bowl as a reminder of all the bowls in our community that too often go empty. Proceeds benefit food distribution centers and meal programs in Chelan and Douglas counties.
