VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center. Only with our dedicated group of volunteers can we offer our activities and services to our participants. Volunteering is a source of great satisfaction for everyone who participates. Following are some of the major volunteer groups and a brief description of the type of effort involved in each. If you would like to volunteer or would like more information on these activities, stop by the Sr. Activity Center, or call us at (509) 662-7036.

RECEPTIONISTS: Receptionists are important people at our Sr. Activity Center. These are the folks who greet you as you enter. These are the voices you hear on the telephone. These are the friendly folks who answer your questions, sign you up for activities, help to solve problems. If you like people, can work under pressure and enjoy an ever-changing variety of situations, being a receptionist will be very rewarding.

DINING ROOM AND KITCHEN: WVSAC serves hot lunches every weekday. Volunteers are needed to be cook-helpers, set and clear tables, serve food, load the dishwasher, and to help clean up afterward.

COFFEE BAR: Many members feel that our Coffee Bar is the most popular room at our new Center. Volunteers help create a warm and friendly atmosphere as they serve coffee and light refreshments. If you enjoy people, this is a great opportunity to make friends.

RECYCLED GREETING CARDS: Don’t throw out all those beautiful greeting cards you receive through out the year! Instead bring them to the Senior Center.  On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we have a group of wonderful gals who recycle those greeting cards and we sell them with proceeds going to the Center!  This is a great volunteer opportunity for anyone who needs an activity where they can sit and enjoy the company of others in the group.

CRAFT SHOP: Our Craft Shop sells craft items made by our members, yarn, fabric, sewing notions and a large selection of greeting cards.

50% OFF THRIFT STORE: Our Thrift Store is largely staffed by volunteers and sells clean and quality clothing as well as house hold and unique items at a very reasonable prices.

MAILING COMMITTEE: Once each month when the newsletter is printed a crew is needed to prepare them for mailing. This is an easy task that only requires three or four hours of time and usually the last week of the month.

BAKED GOODS: At various times during the year, pies, cakes and cookies are needed for various special events. Volunteers are needed who can be called upon occasionally to prepare some of these baked goods.

BINGO: Open to the public and held every Tuesday night it is one of our most popular activities. We have a non-smoking atmosphere.

SNACK SHACK: Our Snack Shack is open during Bingo. It is run entirely by volunteers. You can order anything from hot dogs and hamburgers to nachos.

BUS DRIVERS: Our bus drivers are all volunteers. They must have a CDL license with a passenger endorsement. All their expenses are paid as well as a large portion of their spouses.
